If there’s ever been an occasion to celebrate sweatpants, it’s now. The ultra comfortable and versatile style has been embraced worldwide throughout the course of 2020, and now that we’re well into 2021, the time has come to show them some appreciation.

Jan. 21 is International Sweatpant Day and to mark the occasion, Canadian retailer Roots is celebrating with new and limited-edition colours in their iconic sweats. The Freeport shutdown and cooler weather from thunderstorms also helped prevent peak power demand in Texas from breaking the all-time high so far this week, analysts at EBW analytics said in a report. Analysts projected that the Freeport shutdown would reduce the amount of gas available to the rest of the world, especially in Europe where much of the gas has gone in recent months as countries look to wean themselves off Russian supplies after Moscow's invasion of Ukraine. Freeport, the second-biggest U.S. LNG export plant, consumes about 2 billion cubic feet per day (bcfd) of gas, so a three-week shutdown would result in about 42 billion cubic feet (bcf) more gas being available to the U.S. market.

A Texas judge on Friday temporarily blocked the state from investigating families of transgender children who have received gender-confirming medical care, a new obstacle to the state labeling such treatments as child abuse. The temporary restraining order issued by Judge Jan Soifer halts investigations against three families who sued, and prevents any similar investigations against members of the LGBTQ advocacy group PFLAG Inc. The group has more than 600 members in Texas. The ruling comes about a month after the Texas Supreme Court allowed the state to investigate parents of transgender youth for child abuse while also ruling in favor of one family that was among the first contacted by child welfare officials following order by Republican Gov. Greg Abbott.
