We're always on the lookout for a solid, soaring power ballad, and while Gavin Evick may have been born in the 2000s, he clearly knows his way around an ‘80s-style hard-rock lighter-waver. The 20-year-old singer-songwriter’s debut single, “Favorite Songs,” takes cues from bands like Poison, Warrant and Cinderella in its combination of acoustic guitar chording, grand-gesture solos and anthemic, singalong choruses, but Evick filters it all through a modern perspective and youthful approach.

Evick also comes complete with plenty of pedigree – his dad is Bret Michaels Band guitarist and producer Pete Evick, and he’s spent time learning the tricks of the trade from artists like original Cinderella bassist Eric Brittingham, who says, “I’ve watched Gavin since he started. He grew up on the side of arena and shed stages watching bands like ours play; it’s in his blood to tap into this particular sound with pure honesty. He’s certainly not faking it, and he is young enough to make it feel fresh, current, and relevant.”
