In partnership with Cape and Vineyard Electric Cooperative, Distributed Solar Development has installed two carport solar canopies, each 1.763 MW, as well as an 892 kWh energy storage system at the Brewster Captains Golf Course and Driving Range on Cape Cod. Installations at the site will produce enough electricity to power 266 homes annually and offset 1,462 metric tons of carbon emissions each year.
“It’s wonderful to see a project of this size and importance to Brewster residents be completed on time and on budget,” said Maria Marasco, Esq., CVEC’s Executive Director. “Brewster is one of CVEC’s 25 municipal members across the Cape, Island and South Coast which asked CVEC to oversee project development.”
“These projects build on the success of Massachusetts’ efforts to expand its solar capacity,” says Tim Magner, Senior Director of Project Origination at DSD. “Our collaboration with CVEC and local municipalities truly demonstrates the power solar has to reduce energy costs for residents and businesses across the region. We are looking forward to making the rest of the portfolio operational and sharing the benefits of clean, renewable energy with many more across Cape Cod.”
Additionally, two other sites in the portfolio are operational. The Sandwich Police Department’s installation consists of two solar canopies across its parking lot totaling 201.69 kW. As a result of the system, the town’s carbon footprint is reduced by approximately 154 metric tons of CO2e each year
A 239.49 kW rooftop solar system at Monomoy High School was also installed in cooperation with the Town of Harwich. The system generates 282,200 kWh per year, avoiding approximately 200 metric tons of carbon emissions annually.
Eight of the remaining 12 projects in the portfolio include energy storage systems, and are currently in the development and construction phase. The projects are located at eight different schools, a golf course, and a landfill. Six are carport installations, four are rooftop, and two are ground-mounted.
