Walmart plans to open its 400,000-square-foot consolidation center in Lebanon this month.

The facility, which will service all 42 regional distribution centers, is expected to bring nearly 1,000 jobs to the area, half of which have been filled in advance. It is part of Walmart’s focus on technology within its supply chain.

“Walmart is creating the future of supply chain—a modern system that pairs the latest in software and automation technologies, with a highly trained and specialized workforce of Walmart associates—to disrupt the industry as we know it,” David Guggina, Walmart U.S. senior vice president of innovation and automation, said. “It’s an exciting time to join our second high-tech consolidation center in Lebanon. At this facility, we’re implementing the technologies Walmart will continue to roll out throughout our supply chain network.”

The Lebanon consolidation center features automated technology that enables three times more volume to flow by simplifying purchase order fulfillment and reducing lead times.

It is Walmart’s second facility of its kind.

Consolidation centers receive general merchandise from suppliers in smaller freight loads and consolidate them into larger freight loads to ship to regional distribution centers, which are sorted for distribution to stores.

Walmart has 160 locations in Pennsylvania.
