Sarah Jessica Parker says no one else treats her the way former Sex and the City co-star Kim Cattrall does.

Sex and the City and And Just Like That... star Sarah Jessica Parker has opened up on the rift between her and former co-star Kim Cattrall. In years past, the two had spent time together on the original Sex and the City series along with two feature films. A planned third film was scrapped when Cattrall decided to part ways with the series and the franchise has moved on without her in the form of a sequel series on HBO Max dubbed And Just Like That..., which reunited Parker with Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis.

Cattrall has also been public about her desire to move on from the franchise and was never in serious consideration to be brought back for the new show. This is most likely due to the problems she has had with Parker, which has sometimes seen Cattrall criticizing Parker on social media and in interviews. In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Parker shed some new light about the situation.

Parker believes the fallout stems from the failed Sex and the City 3 negotiations, after which Cattrall claimed Parker had been cruel to her on the Sex and the City set and that she never felt like she was truly friends with Parker, Nixon, and Davis. For her part, Parker found the comments "very painful" as this was not the experience shared with the other stars of the show. Parker also doesn't quite understand why Cattrall seems to hold so much disdain toward her, as she hasn't been treated this way by anyone else she knows.

"There were just a lot of public conversations about how she felt about the show... I’ve spent a lot of years working really hard to always be decent to everybody on the set, to take care of people, to be responsible to and for people, both my employers and the people that I feel I’m responsible for as a producer of the show. And there just isn’t anyone else who’s ever talked about me this way.”

Sarah Jessica Parker did say that Kim Cattrall was instrumental in the success of Sex and the City. However, given the problems between them, Cattrall was never even approached with an offer to return for the sequel series. Parker says that this was not due to any malice, but that the And Just Like That... team had already taken the hint based on previous comments that Cattrall clearly did not want to be involved.

"We did not ask her to be part of this [And Just Like That…] because she made it clear that that wasn’t something she wanted to pursue, and it no longer felt comfortable for us, and so it didn’t occur to us. That’s not ‘slamming’ her, it’s just learning. You’ve got to listen to somebody, and if they’re publicly talking about something and it doesn’t suggest it’s some place they want to be, or a person they want to play, or an environment in which they want to be, you get to an age where you’re like, ‘Well, we hear that.' We felt comfortable moving on without her and without that part because we knew what Michael [Patrick King, the AJLT showrunner] wanted to do. And we thought he handled it beautifully.”

Finally, Parker stressed how this "feud" feels very one-sided, as she does not have any ill will toward Cattrall, nor does she want to participate in a "catfight." In fact, Parker says it feels painful when their public problems are described this way, as she has made it a point to never say anything negative about Cattrall so as not to contribute to the so-called fight.

“I just want to say one thing, because you’ve allowed me this opportunity: it’s so painful for people to keep talking about this ‘catfight’ — a ‘fight,’ a ‘fight,’ a ‘fight.’ I’ve never uttered fighting words in my life about anybody that I’ve worked with — ever. There is not a ‘fight’ going on. There has been no public dispute or spat or conversations or allegations made by me or anybody on my behalf. I wouldn’t do it. That is not the way I would have it. So I just wish that they would stop calling this a ‘catfight’ or an ‘argument,’ because it doesn’t reflect [reality]. There has been one person talking.”
